Palekh boxes are exclusive products of Palekh painting made from lacquer miniatures in the 18th century in the village of Palekh. Each box has its own history, icon-painting craft and a number of features that emphasize the subtlety of the drawing, the silhouette of graceful figures and the dynamic combination of yellow, orange and green coloгrs.
In 1924, artists from the village of Palekha decided to found the "Artel of Ancient Painting". The works of this association went to the World Exhibition in Paris in 1925.
The artists used fairy-tale and historical subjects, their works traced the development of traditional Russian icon painting. Palekh boxes were used to store letters, jewelry and other valuables.
